Year [3]
Landscape
A study completed on the landscape and spatial conditions of the cemetery on campus. The drawings engage qualities dealing with the temporal and indestructible nature of boundaries.
Landscape Representation and Intervention - Ledges State Park - Ames, IA
A study, conducted in pairs, resulting in a proposed intervention dealing in, around, or on top of Ledges State Park. Jon Bartkowicz and I began with looking back to the characteristic of the park when it was first established in 1924. Analyzing the recession of the tree line and the installation of road and pathways, we were able to overlay this information into one map. Focusing on the years 1930, 1980 and 2012, we were able to overlay the boundary created by the tree line from each year as well as how this boundary relates to the path we had navigated when visiting the site.
Our proposed intervention highlighted the idea of 3rd generation path. Using a clamp-like form, visitors of the park would mark their own paths taken on multiple levels. As the sun sets, these instruments would illuminate, highlighting to others also using the park where others have gone before them.

Post Field Trip Findings - Madison, WI - Minneapolis, MN
We've done the most sketching on this field trip that we've done throughout the semester. More details to come, following studio today, concerning where these sketch composites will go from here.
Meditation - Winterset, IA
Analyzing what we recorded throughout the trip, we began to notice a strong repetition of a grid in each moment. This grid isn't consistent. Each grid is composed of moments where the most noticeable linear qualities are pushed to the background, almost diluting or allowing the gird to fade. Each instance where the grid is "broken" was something what we took great interest in. Focusing our attention on the contrast between complete and broken grid qualities at each location began to compose our own definition, and eventual way to represent meditation.
Jon and I concluded that great interest in the built environment occurs naturally where a break in the grid is observed. We chose to call out meditation as a contrast between the routine and the automatic. The routine or 'regimented' nature of schedule occurs with the grid lines. Only when individuals go into 'automatic' (navigating away from the grid lines) does true release or 'meditation' occur.

Demoscene at the intersection of Crosby and Broome
Client
The SoHo Housing project is to be designed for a client with an "alternative" lifestyle.
I worked with people that identify with the demoscene subculture. "The Demoscene originates from the computer software pirate-scene in northern Europe/Scandinavia in the late 80s. Today, the "sceners" make multimedia demonstrations to show what your "demogroup" can do on the computer.
A demogroup consists of coders graphichsians and musicians. "
